The film ‘Bulbbul’ – 2020

By Ajay Amrite

I grew up with stories of the revenge seeking चूड़ेल , whose legs are उल्टा. So Bulbbul was a fascinating and a scary story with hints of Stree in the scariness.

I just wish that it was a group of women coming together, instead of a single super herosque character, to take matters into their own hands against a system that suppresses them.

I guess I have seen too many suspense movies, I was able to guess quite early on in the movie that the Badi Bahu was probably the चुड़ेल. Contrast this with Sixth Sense, where I discovered to my utter shock, that Bruce Willis’s character is dead only when I saw his wedding ring rolling on the floor near the end of the movie. I remember going through all the hints in my head once I discovered this. In Bulbbul the director shows Satya remembering the hints. I just found Sixth Sense to be more effective. I also wish they had spent a bit more time on the intrigue.

Still, Bulbbul is a great film and a must watch.
