Omkara
If you want to know or see Northern India (UP, Bihar etc…) in its original raw self then this is the movie to watch. Shakespeare provided the theme, but Vishal Bharadwaj provided the story. The screenplay is superb, the performances are brilliant, the lines (or for that matter words) are superb. For example one of the characters is refered to and called ‘Langda’. Plane and raw LANGDA, No hesitation, no guilt. Langda means lame, a crude way of addressing a handicapped person the appropriate word would be apahij. I would hesitate and be ashamed of myself, to call a lame person langda. But in omkara Langda wears the name like a rank, with pride.
In Omkara, Vishal Bhardwaj has created a UP that people imagine it to be in reality i guess it is not as bad or it could be, i don’t know i have never lived there but UP is in the news for the things depicted in Omkara, corrupt officials, twisted politicians, uneducated people a government that exists only on paper.
Saif Ali Khan is a revelation, if you see Dil Chahta Hain, Being Cyrus and Omkara back to back you will feel that Sameer, Cyrus Mistry and Langda are different people. I can’t believe that they are all played by the same actor.
Ajay Devgan as usual delivers a superb performance, unlike Langda he is responsible and mature, he is a leader of men, not neccessarily good but man with a strength, counrage, brains.
I am sure there are many more things I want to write about this movie, I miay write is another time.
